FAQs

FOR PATIENTS

It’s normal to have questions about visiting our eye specialist clinic, so we’ve put together a list of our most common patient queries. Of course, if your question isn’t here, please contact our rooms directly on 03 5176 4994 or you can email us at admin@vced.com.au

  • What do I need to bring to my first appointment?

Please bring the following to your first appointment with us:

    • Referral
    • Medicare card
    • Pension card, concession card, private health fund card or Vet Affairs card
    • Patient registration form which can be downloaded and completed before your appointment
    • List of medical problems and current medications
    • Payment card or cash
    • Glasses
    • Sunglasses

  • How long will my appointment take?

Your appointment will usually take between 1.5 and 2 hours, so please allow plenty of time.

Sometimes we need to fit in urgent appointments for those who need immediate attention. This may result in others waiting longer for their appointments. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

  • What will happen at my appointment?

When you arrive, please check in with reception.

An assistant to our eye doctors will see you first and check your eyesight and conduct some initial tests. You may have drops put in your eyes in preparation for your examination by the eye specialist.

Some eye drops make your pupils bigger so we can thoroughly check the back of your eyes. These may cause blurred close vision and light sensitivity for 2-3 hours. Wearing sunglasses will help you manage the glare.

  • Can I drive after my appointment?

It depends on what happens at your appointment. If you have any of the following procedures done, for your safety we recommend that someone else drives you home:

    • drops to dilate your pupils (you will be sensitive to light and will have blurred close vision)
    • injections or laser treatment (you may experience discomfort and watery eyes that may distort your vision)
    • after surgery

  • What are your fees?

We can provide an estimate of fees before your appointment.

Any additional tests and procedures that may be requested by the eye specialist on the day of your appointment may cost extra. Wherever possible, we will make you aware of the costs involved, before proceeding.

We are a private billing clinic and payment is required on the day of your consultation.

Payment can be made by cash, personal cheque, EFTPOS or credit card (Mastercard or Visa).

Any Medicare rebates will be processed on the day and on-site.

We do not routinely bulk bill patients. However, we do offer discounted rates for pension and concession cardholders.

  • Where can I park?

There is some parking at the front of the clinic, and ample parking in the side streets close by in Garden Grove and Lafayette Street.

  • What should I do in an emergency?

In the event of an emergency when our clinic is not open (either after hours or on public holidays), please contact:

    • Your local optometrist

  • What is your COVID-19 policy?

You must ring the office (do not come to the practice) before your appointment to reschedule if you have:

    • returned from a COVID exposure site in the last 14 days prior to your appointment
    • had contact with a suspected or confirmed COVID–19 case
    • recently returned from overseas or has been asked to self-isolate
    • visits to quarantine hotels
    • any of the following symptoms: fever, cough or shortness of breath, conjunctivitis or loss of smell (or taste).

You need to wear a mask for your appointment.

We kindly ask all carers and drivers to wait in the car.

If you arrive early for your appointment, please wait in the car until 10 minutes before your appointment time.

We appreciate your cooperation in these matters as your safety and wellbeing, along with our team’s, is important.

To ensure everyone’s safety during the pandemic, we screen all patients and visitors for COVID–19 symptoms. Your temperature may be checked at the door and you will be asked questions about any possible COVID–19 symptoms. You will be required to sanitise your hands on entering and leaving the practice. We practise social distancing in the waiting room and clean all equipment in between each patient.
